Problem
/ Project Background
Afghanistan has one of the lowest sets of social indicators
in the world.
The twenty years of war and internal conflicts have resulted
in the complete destruction of social and economic infrastructure.
The destruction includes virtual collapse
of the education system in terms of physical and human resources.
Public buildings, including schools, have been seriously damaged.
Civil unrest did not spare teachers either and many were forced
to leave jobs. According to estimates, more than 2,000 teachers
have been killed in war and affected by internal displacement
and migration.
Project Goal
- To repair, renovate or where necessary, reconstruct physical
infrastructure of selected existing schools in the Paghman
area.
- In the short term, to enable classes to be conducted
at the schools.
- In long term, to increase Gross enrolment Ratio, decrease
the dropout ratio, and reduce disparities between access
of boys & girls to primary education.
