Community Action Project (CAP)

Project Overview
The Community Action Project (CAP) is a community-based development project that assists poor disadvantaged communities break the vicious cycle of poverty and improve their living standards.

IR aid workers encourage small groups of community members save money together who are then given access to loans and income generation activities. IR mobilises the community to build its own institutions and to take care of the immediate environment, o improve hygiene and sanitation.


Problem / Project Background
The Community Action Project (CAP) began in 1994 aiming to develop and mobilise people from disadvantaged rural communities.

Small groups of people are organised who gather money together and save it for investing in income generating activities. Islamic Relief collects the savings and deposits them in a Bank under the name of each member. IR also provides credit from each group's fund.

Beneficiaries
This project benefits 3,167 people, 98% of them are women from marginalised farming communities in rural Bangladesh.
