Project
Background
The project began in May 2005 in north-eastern Bangladesh in flood prone area in Sunamganj.
Communities are organised into groups of around 30 to 35 members who come together to discuss their problems, find solutions and pool resources together. These community groups have access to small business loans and other services.
The ICAP project includes components on income generation, education and the development of skills, developing community organisations, health care services, disaster preparedness and orphan sponsorship.
The project covers selected unions of the Sunamgang District in Sylhet.
The major components of the project include the development of community based organisations, developing the capacity of the community to manage its own affairs, a savings and small business loans scheme, education and training, health care services, particularly for women and children.
ICAP is integrated with the disaster preparedness and orphans sponsorship projects. The mother and child health care activities and general healthcare service also provides internal income earning support for the project.
