Clothes and toys distribution at Orphanage ‘Yagnenok’

Project Overview
The project aims to improve the standard of living of children in the Yagnenok orphanage in Grozny, Chechnya, by providing them with seasonal clothing and toys.

Problem / Project Background
There are more than 300 children living in five regional Chechen orphanages, but the labor and social welfare Ministry says that this is only a fraction of those in need of protection.

Chechen orphanages receive very little funding; private donations, both monetary and in-kind, form the largest support, but this is irregular.

The majority of the children who live in Yagnenok are from families where one parent (usually the main breadwinner) was killed in the conflict. A significant number of the children have lost both parents. These children have to deal not just with the loss of a parent or parents, but with poverty and harsh living conditions. Some of the children turn to drugs/alcohol as a means of escape .

Project Objectives

  • Providing the children with adequate clothing and toys.
  • Improving the atmosphere in the orphanage.
  • Improving the educational performance of the children.
  • Improving the emotional stability of the children

Project Activities

  • Providing orphans with seasonal clothes and toys.
  • Re-equipping the playroom and bedroom with educational and entertaining toys, a TV and bedding.

Beneficiaries
Thirty-six orphans (13 females and 23 males aged 4-16 years-old) living in the Yagnenok orphanage.
